WHAT TO BRING
1) This is sight fishing at its most demanding form, and we have a SAYING, “YOU CAN’T CATCH WHAT YOU CAN’T SEE“ SO a good pair of polarized sunglasses is a must for fishing here, you might want to leave the rest behind, BUT NOT THIS!!! What color lenses perform better?? Amber, Tortoise green, copper & brown is best for the flats, I use Costa del Mar sunglasses, if you happen to forget yours, I have a spare pair aboard that you’re welcome to use at no cost.
2) What should I wear when out fishing??? Try wearing fresh clothing, like , flats shirts with vented mesh on the back, staying cool is a must specially in summer months, also, make sure the color of your clothing is not too BRIGHT, example, white, orange, yellow and such,, why?? Because you’ll pick up lots of light and glow badly, these only causes the fish to spot you at a far distance and ahead of time, fish will then stay away, without providing you the shots!!! So blending into the surrounding and staying invisible as much as you can, is BETTER, best colors to wear for this type of fishing are, Blue, Overcast, Gray, Forrest and Light Green.
Extra clothing: Long sleeve shirts, long pants & a jacket is good idea for chilly mornings and overcast days
3) Flats fishing hat & sun gloves; a flats hat will protect your head, neck and face from the sun and a dark under side brim will aid to your ability to spot fish along with you sunglasses
Sun gloves will protect your hands and advisable to wear if planning to use lots of sun block, why?? With them on , you don’t oil the grips of the rods, you then can keep a solid grip on rod handle for when flying or casting it and for the hook ups also, also when touching your flies and lures,, no sent left on them which can cause a refusal from fish to lures or flies !!!!
4) Your own tackle, feel free to bring your favorite rods and reels, I will be glad to look them over to make sure they are up to speed and adequate for the task at hand, I have high quality and top shelf tackle that you’re welcome to use at no charge… if planning to bring your own gear, then visit the gear page to see all the needs for here
5) Shoes / Sandals, Please- no dark soled shoes as they tend to mark up the boat, Shoes, you only need them off the boat and not while on it!!! for this type of fishing is highly recommendable not to wear shoes forth they squeak on the deck, any noise on the boat will be transferred into water and only cause fish to know where we are located and so on, No shots at them !! , if afraid of getting your feet sunburned, then bring an extra pair of white sock for you to use, my boat decks have a great anti-skid surface, so no worries about slipping without shoes, another reason and most important one, for not wearing shoes is, you don’t want to be on that deck waiting 10-20 minutes for a shot and once this comes, YOU’RE standing on the line and loose the chance to catch a fish??? Plus you can peel and ruin an expensive line when you step on it with shoes on and rub it with the deck, don’t put any extra charges to the package, it’s about having fun..
6) Food, Drinks and snacks: A cooler with ice is provide on skiff, so please do not bring one, I try to keep clutter on the deck to a minimum, I will provide breakfast & lunch on some of the fishing packages, you’re welcome to bring your preferred goodies and drinks also and use my cooler.
- Sunblocks : (Remember Cancun is known us the sunshine state Mexico even in winter time, so a high rated sunblock is a must also, 30spf & 50spf, are most commons to use, the higher, the better, you don’t want to have a great day fishing and regret it when heading to bed!!!! Lip balm: Good idea for wind and sun also
Breathable Raingear : All do this are rear, I keep a spare set of rain coats on board in sizes *Large*, so you might want to bring your own to insure a proper fit specially when you’re bringing kids or a guest
- Video camera/ Camera: I practice catch and release, so a few pictures are a great way to remember your experience and there always fun to show your friends and family. Welcome to bring them along, my boats have dry storage compartments, for better protection bring them inside a Zip-Lock bag
