If this fishing is hard and demanding, then do not
hesitate on jumping aboard a skiff that has the right and best gear for the
sport, cause that’s what you catch the fish with, you’ll be dealing with the
hardest and Kinnie’st species to fish for and you should be using the best
gear, other wise, you’re just out there to see fish, not to catch them,
PERIOD.

FLYFISHING ANGLERS
SAGE Outfits:
Two 8wt. rplx-i2 rods with
matching Sage 3000 series reels and WF-FL line
Two 10wt. rplx-i2 rods with
matching Sage 3000 reels, one with WF-FL line and other with WF-I line

Flies, leaders, tippets and tools are plenty aboard
also, only when targeting the big tarpon on their migration in spring or
fishing the bay-side is when I drop-in my 12wt, rigs.
You must be asking yourself, why does this guide carry so much gear???
well simple, I am the type of guide that hate surprises from fish when out
guiding, every one of my outfits, whether fly or spinning will be rig and
ready with something different (lure or flie) for any occasion, if something
shows up, will be ready for it, I’d rather go back-in saying that we did not
catch the fish that show-up cause he did not provide us the shot, and not
cause we didn’t had a rod with something ready for him or short of gear, I
am cure, I tell you and this happens almost on every trip my friend, so no
worries, will be ready for anything when out there, I PROMISE.
When fishing with me, you don’t need to worry about the gear, if you want to
bring your own tackle any way; here are some tips for the road.
The fly-fisher:
I recommend you 8 and 10wt. rods,
with matching WF-FL. Lines and
GOOD quality drag reels loaded with at
least 200yds. of backing, tippets for Tarpon, Snook & Bonefish are ok. but
I rather make them myself, if you want to learn how to tie them, bring
MASON hard type mono on 25,20,16,12 &
8lb. test in 25yds spools, and I’ll teach you how to tie them,,
ON THE GEAR SIDE, bring only good
quality gear and that’s made for this type of fishing, if your gear is not
made for this then leave it home, this fishing is already difficult why
make it any harder for yourself, things are done FAST, LONG & ACCURATE here,
so your gear has to match the hatch.
Flies:
TARPON
& SNOOK: I tie my own flies, if you like to tie
your own flies I recommend you bring an assortment of streamer type flies
tied on 2/0 and 3/0 hooks such us: Lefty’s Deceivers, Gummy flies, Seahabits,
Seaducers, Bendbacks and any type of Tarpon flies, for BONES and PERMIT:
some Crazy Charlie’s, Clousers, Gotchas, Merkins, Velcro-Flexo Crabs and
Shrimp patterns in light & dark colors.
Tied on size # 4-6 hooks., all the flies I tie are in this hook numbers as
well.
